In an effort to support local small businesses, the City of Walnut is awarding one-time grants, up to $5,000, to assist eligible business owners weather the economic hardships resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Eligibility
Businesses must meet the following qualifying criteria:
- Be independently owned and operated.
- Employ no more than 25 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees.
- Have a physical place of business (i.e., a storefront, not an online or mail-order only business) in Walnut.
- Have a valid City of Walnut Business License.
- Have been in operation for at least six (6) months in the City.
*At this time, the grant program is not intended for home-based businesses or businesses without a commercial storefront.

Example of Eligible Grant Expenses
Examples of expenses that are eligible for use of grant funds are (but not limited to):
- Rent, lease, or mortgage payments
- Utility expenses
- Insurance, personal protective equipment (PPE) and supplies,
- The purchase and installation of material and equipment to accommodate physical distancing
- Other temporary operation adjustments such as hands-free payment devices, sanitation supplies and Plexiglas partitions (to be approved on a case-by-case basis) consistent with the Business Grant Program Policy Guidelines

Selection Process
Applications will be accepted starting July 18, 2022. The max grant award is $5,000. All awards will be on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Eligibility Verification/ Distribution of Funds
City staff will review each selected application for eligibility. All qualifying applicants will be notified within ten (10) business days to discuss next steps in the grant funding process.
