Community Development
- The time to process a Site Plan/Architectural Review application varies depending on the complexity of the project and clarity of your submitted materials. Our goal is to respond to your initial application within 3 to 4 weeks. You will be provided with a letter indicating the status of your application which identifies any additional materials, revisions or clarifications that your design team needs to address. Providing all of the submittal items requested in the application instructions, along with complete, clear and accurate plans prepared by a licensed architect, will help ensure that your application is processed as efficiently as possible.
- The City’s Municipal Code is available on-line. If you have any questions or need assistance, contact the Planning Division at 909-595-7543 during normal business hours.
- The City of Walnut has a design review process for all room additions. The underlying goal is to ensure that the proposed addition appears seamless with the existing residence in terms of architectural form, roof design, finish materials and compatibility with the surrounding neighborhood. A Site Plan/Architectural Review application needs to be completed and submitted to the Planning Division for consideration. Applications are initially reviewed by the Community Development Department for compliance with the City's General Plan and Zoning regulations, including the reasons for approval required by Code Section 25-248, Basis for Approval. Site Plan/Architectural Review applications often require a hearing and approval by the Planning Commission. For Site Plan/Architectural Review application forms and submittal requirements click here.
Once your Site Plan/Architectural Review application is approved, full construction level drawings may be submitted to the Building Division for Building Plan Check to ensure compliance with California Building Codes. After the plans are approved by the Building Division and building permits are issued, construction of your addition may begin. - To obtain zoning information on a property, contact the Planning Division at 909-595-7543 during normal business hours. Please have the address of the property available.
Who should I call if I have a complaint regarding a possible violation regarding zoning, property maintenance, signs, or other issues?
The Code Enforcement Division responds to complaints received about potential Code violation from a variety of sources, including other residents, on topics such as property maintenance standards, signs, uses of property, abandoned vehicles, and recreational vehicle parking. The City will not be able to respond to anonymous complaints. Questions, complaints and Requests for Service may be made confidentially by contacting the Code Enforcement Division at 909-595-7543 or on the web at Request Service.
