The City of Walnut City Council is comprised of five Councilmembers elected at-large for four-year terms. The next General Municipal Election will be held on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, for the election of three (3) City Councilmembers.

Eligibility for City Council Candidacy
To be eligible to run for City Council, candidates must be legal residents over the age of 18 residing within the City of Walnut’s incorporated boundaries and be a registered voter in the city at the time nomination papers are issued. Interested residents must make an appointment with the City Clerk to receive and submit campaign documents during the Nomination Period which begins Monday, July 15 and ends at noon on Friday, August 9, 2024. The Nomination Period will be extended to 5:00 p.m. on August 14, 2024, if an incumbent does not file nomination papers by the August 9th deadline.
After Nomination Period begins on Monday, July 15, 2024:
Step 1: Contact the City Clerk for an appointment during City Hall business hours
Step 2: Complete nomination papers and collect signatures
Step 3: File nomination papers with the City Clerk by appointment only
Deadline August 9th or if extended, August 14th
Election-specific documents will not be available prior to July 15th. Potential candidates are encouraged to review FPPC Campaign Rules, election manuals and campaign forms:

- A United States Citizen and resident of California
- At least 18 years of age or older on or before Election Day
- Not currently in state or federal prison or on parole for the conviction of a felony, and
- Not currently found mentally incompetent by a court law
